Mandurah Performing Arts Centre was thrilled to host the opening of The Human Footprint in Society, a vibrant new exhibition by local artist Martin Phillips, supported by The Community Bank Halls Head.
The opening brought together fellow artists, community members, and Midway Community Care staff to celebrate Martin’s work—a collection he has long kept at home, now beautifully displayed in the Mez Art Space. Martin reaches for a diverse range of mediums to bring his ideas to life, combining detailed embroidery collaged onto painted and dyed fabrics, found objects, and even marks made with his feet. One of his favourite materials, BondCrete, sourced from Bunnings, appears throughout the works, sometimes layered over fabrics or frames, adding texture and a glossy shine to his pieces.
“Art is relaxing, I go into another world,” Martin shared, reflecting on how creativity allows him to explore and process life. He hopes to one day create a space where others can do the same, using art as a form of expression and therapy.
At ManPAC, we are proud to showcase artists from diverse backgrounds, celebrating the local creative talent that enriches our community. And with Martin already planning his next project, we can’t wait to see what comes next!
