The 2023 ‘Spirit of the Landscape’ art exhibition features almost 40 artworks by 19 highly regarded Australian and International plein air artists.
The exhibition celebrates the vast landscapes of rural, regional and remote Australia. The artists may choose to reference place, the people of remote communities, the topography of the landscape or the challenges of living and working in remote Australia.
A particular feature of the exhibition will be the artworks of renowned international artists Matt Ryder (UK/UAE) and Amit Kapoor (India) – as well as internationally recognised Australian artists Brendon Darby and Leon Holmes.
The exhibition opens on Saturday 9 September in the Alcoa Gallery at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre and runs until Sunday October 8. Entry is free.
“Plein Air Down Under is up there with the best of the international ‘plein air’ festivals I’ve attended. It had the spirit of community and excitement in the artists that reminded me of that cloud I couldn’t get down from after I first attended Ireland’s ‘Art in the Open Festival’ – I’m so happy to see so many smiles on so many faces.” Leon Holmes, Co-Founder of Plein Air Down Under.
