WORLD MUSIC CONCERTS – THE FO’C’S’LE FIRKINS
The Livelighter World Music 2023 concert series showcases a diversity of high-quality music and dance from around the globe at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre. Enjoy these free Sunday afternoon sojourns featuring some of our top multicultural talent.
The Fo’c’s’le Firkins are one of Australia’s oldest a capella shanty groups that formed in Perth for the 1985 National Folk Festival. In recent years, there has been a recent global renaissance of interest in traditional shanty work songs from the Tall Ships era and the Firkins are proud to have been part of this ongoing folk tradition for nearly forty years. Experience the raw power of authentic traditional shanties and seafaring maritime songs with the original Fo’c’s’le Firkins, who will be joined by the Mad Tatters Morris dancers demonstrating the English folk dance tradition.
Also joining us are the Mad Tatters Morris dancers, they will perform traditional vigorous dances from English villages along the Welsh border. Dressed in colourful ‘tatter coats’, they dance with sticks accompanied by musicians playing melodeons, whistle & drum.
